With Oberon, the sixth major post-release content update for Albion Online, SBI changed the common system of HCE´s to a reworked one with the goal that people skip less and clear more of the map. So they removed the old missions (you had to clear a set number of special mobs (like thiefs, wildlings, haunted knights etc.) and replaced it with a system that you have to clear a set number of mobs.

So for example you had to clear before the patch on Stonewars:

  • 8x Veteran Rockgrinder Berserker
  • 3x Veteran Rockgrinder Giant
  • 1x Veteran Rockgrinder Chieftain

To finish the map you had 30min, 20min to do the mission and 10min extra-time.
After the patch the mission looks like that:

  • 63x Mobs (any kind)
  • 1x Veteran Rockgrinder Chieftain
and you have 34min and 30sec to finish the map (11min 40 extra-time and 22min 50sec to do the mission)

To finish a HCE you have to kill now ~80% of the enemies encountered, as well as the boss. Because different HCE´s take differents amounts of time, the time allowed to finish some
HCE´s and get a new map was increased. To that drastical change of the mission SBI changed the amount of silver and loot earned in HCE´s by 25%, but added that in HCE´s every
weapon/armor can drop in every tier (before T6 drop was the maximum, because all mobs are T6).
These changes scared a lot of HCE-players, so almost everyone thought HCE´s are going to be:

  • undoable to finish in time (on Lvl. 12+ maps)
  • a loss-maker (because of the nerf of the earned silver)
  • and a dead place (because everyone was selling his gear, even the "famous" HCE-players)
After the Oberon Patch no one played high level HCE´s (Lvl. 12-15) anymore, except one or two groups and some low level groups (Lvl. 5-8). The "lfg-channel" was empty. I thought too that HCE´s are bad after that patch and that RD´s are the new place to do and have challenging PvE-content. Because i didnt liked the RD´s i wanted to make a group with people i knew from HCE to give them a chance at least, and surprisingly they were pretty much fun.
I had to develop for every map a new way to clear it, depending on the level of the map and the DD´s in my party, but the new HCE´s are a way better then the old ones!
You dont have to skip on the most maps under Lvl. 14, you do a way more challenging pulls and mob-groups and get more fame, around the same silver then before the patch (because you dont skip 45% of the map) and have more fun.
Some maps went pretty hard, like Funghicide, Three Sisters and Stonewars because of the rough timer but after we played some maps we found the best way to clear the map, to skip the big pulls and do the easier pulls with a lot of "trash" mobs so that you can finish the mission in the given time. I tried to play all maps on Lvl. 13 (except Raven) and that are my results:

I really enjoy playing the overworked HCE with a nice group and still discovering more and more tricks or pulls about the maps. They changed too some bosses and their mechanics so its a lot to discover and need some time till you can play the HCE´s like before but if you got a good tank and a nice group its definitely worth it!

Lumber Lunacy

  • pretty easy (only challenge is the pull with the 2 fire guys)
  • on Lvl. 13 we didnt need to skip, after we killed boss we had 5min bonus-time left
  • you cant tank the boss with whispering bow anymore; the best is incubus mace + taunt now [mechanic: taunt while he does his AOE-spray attack and dodge AA (3x between the AOE-sprays)]
Stonewars
  • medium (hard to get a lot of mobs in not so much time)
  • on Lvl. 13 we skipped 1x, after we killed the boss we had 3min bonus-time left
  • mini-boss spawns a totem now (its 1-hit, and should be killed because it can fuck the pull pretty bad up)
Fishy Business
  • pretty easy (no challenge except of kiting the boss right)
  • on Lvl. 13 we didnt skipped, after killing the boss we had 7min bonus-time left
  • no differences to before Oberon
Funghicide
  • pretty hard (you have a lot of pulls with "big" mobs who are not easy to kill and cant really chainpull the map)
  • on Lvl. 13 we skipped 2x, after we killed the boss we had some seconds bonus-time left
  • no differences before Oberon
  • suggestion: 6min more bonus-time, less mobs in the mission or adding some "trash mobs" on some easy pulls
Lurking Underneath
  • pretty easy (no challenge except of chainpulling the whole map to save some time, if you dont want to chainpull you can just skip)
  • on Lvl. 13 we didnt skipped, after killing the boss we had 2min bonus-time left
  • no differences to before Oberon
Preaching to the Death
  • pretty easy (no challenge except of timing the tank spells right at the boss and combine it with a royal jacket)
  • on Lvl. 13 we didnt skipped, after killing the boss we had 4min bonus-time left
  • no differences to before Oberon
Raven Claws
  • medium (a lot of splitting up pulls and the boss is not fun to do)
  • on Lvl. 11 we skipped 3x, after the boss we had 2min bonus-time left
  • no differences i noticed to before Oberon
Fistful of Silver
  • pretty easy (you have to know how to pull the patrolling-mobs, if not you can pull a whole area of mobs and wipe your team)
  • on Lvl. 13 we skipped 2x, after killing the boss we had 9min bonus-time left
  • no differences to before Oberon
Eternal Battle
  • pretty easy (just collect a lot of skellys and skip mob groups who take a lot of time to kill)
  • on Lvl. 13 we skipped 2x, after killing the boss we had 2min bonus-time left
  • no differences to before Oberon
